Ministers Address
January 2026
Theme: Our Story, Our Song
Scripture: Joshua 1:11: “Prepare your provisions, for in three days you will cross the Jordan”
Beloved in Christ,
As we enter 2026, we do so carrying stories—stories of joy and sorrow, faith and struggle, loss and hope. Each of us arrives at this new year with a testimony written by God’s faithfulness. Together, these stories become our song.
When God spoke to Joshua saying, “Prepare your provisions, for in three days you will cross the Jordan,” He was speaking to a people whose story was changing. The wilderness was behind them. The promise lay ahead. What they had lived through would now shape how they moved forward.
Preparation was not just about food for the journey; it was about remembering their story and trusting the God who had brought them this far. Their past was not wasted—it became the foundation for their next step. Their story was becoming a song of courage, obedience, and hope.
As a church, our story matters. What God has carried us through—personally and communally—shapes our worship, our witness, and our calling. In 2026, God invites us to prepare, not in fear, but in faith, knowing that the One who authored our story is still composing our song.
The Jordan before us represents transition: new ministries, renewed commitment, deeper discipleship, healing, reconciliation, and growth. God is calling us not to silence our stories, but to lift them as songs of praise. Every testimony becomes worship. Every step of obedience becomes melody.
As we step into this year, may we:
- Prepare our hearts to trust God with the next chapter
- Prepare our lives to sing faithfully through service and love
- Prepare our church to move together, united in purpose and hope,
In 2026, may our story be shaped by God’s grace, and may our song be one that glorifies Him—sung not only with our lips, but with our lives
Prepare your provisions.
Honour your story.
Lift your song.
Grace and peace as we journey forward together,
The Reverend Joy Mayisiri
- Guiding Scripture for the Year: Nehemiah 2:18
“They replied, ‘Let us start rebuilding.’ So, they began this good work.”
Theme: “Our Story, Our Song”
As we begin a new Connexional Year 2025-26, the President of the Conference, Reverend Richard Andrew shared a message of hope, unity, and renewal — inviting us to celebrate “Our Story, Our Song” as one diverse and faithful community.
Here at Trinity, we embrace this same call with hearts full of gratitude and expectation: gratitude for all that God has already done among us, and expectation for how the Holy Spirit will continue to breathe new life into our shared journey of faith.
Our Story
“Our Story” reminds us that every person, every culture, every background represented in our congregation matters. Your story is part of God’s story — the story of a God who calls, redeems, and restores.
Like Nehemiah and the people of Jerusalem — who, despite broken walls and uncertain times, rebuilt their faith and their community — we too are invited to
- Rebuild what has fragmented,
- Renew what has grown weary, and
- Reclaim the narrative of hope and belonging.
Our Song
“Our song” reminds us that this is not just a story to be told, but a song to be sung — together.
- A song of praise
- A song of lament
- A song of witness and celebration.
In our wonderful diverse church, we hear many voices and rhythms. Yet in the Spirit, we are brought into harmony — one melody, many parts, all contributing to the beauty of the whole.
What This Means for us
This year, we are invited to live out “Our Story, Our Song” through three simple practices:
- We listen. We give attention to the stories of one another—those who have been longstanding members and those who are just joining our community. We honour how God has been at work in every journey.
- We build. Inspired by Nehemiah’s leadership, we take courageous steps—rebuilding relationships, refreshing ministries, deepening our connection across generations and cultures, reaching out into our local community.
- We sing. We lift our voices — in worship, in life, in service. We allow our diversity to enrich our song. We allow our shared mission to unite us.
Prayer for the Year
My prayer is that Trinity Methodist Church will be a place where every story finds welcome, every voice finds a place in the song, and our unity in Christ becomes a witness to our wider community.
- Let us move forward with hope.
- Let us rebuild what needs rebuilding.
- Let us make music together — a vibrant, inclusive, faithful song that ptoclaims: This is our story. This is our song. Praising our Saviour all the day long.
May God bless our journey together.
Reverend Joy Mayisiri
Let’s build something together.
